Dressing Up for Diwali !

The skies were lit, sweets were ready to be gulped and there we were – all set in our best traditional outfits, ready to rock the night with some shor-sharaaba and dhoom-pataakha ! So before I begin with today’s post, here’s wishing you all a very happy Diwali and a prosperous new year 🙂

I had been waiting for this day, when I could share my festive look with all of you. Diwali for me has always (by that I mean ‘always’) been about Dressing up. Yes, to be precise. When I was a kid, my cousins and other extended family members used to get together at one of our places to celebrate Diwali. Our aim was always to buy TONNES of Crackers, bags full of Sweets and dry-fruits, and of course – Dress Up ! And till today, the rituals haven’t changed. 😀

My look for this Diwali was a happy blend of rustic colors with a hint of contemporary neatness. Getting away from the usual Bling, I opted for layering tonal prints and longer silhouettes this time.

While deciding the complete look, I had to pick & choose from a no. of blingy, dressy and the usual embroidered ethnic items from the shelves in stores. Indian festivities include an array of vibrant colors such as Fuchsia, Coral, Weed Green and tints of Scarlet. But, the trend reports this time have moved away from this chirpy palette and have rather given way to shades of Ochre, Violet, Jade and Marsala – for Autumn’15. Which is now making the indian customers more open for trying unusual combinations and monochrome layering.

To further enhance the look, I chose to indulge in few twinkling accessories and a handful of beauty items.

As I’ve always swore by matte makeup and painted nails, getting your Mascara in place is also an equally important thing to do if you intend to make it happen right. Which is why the new They’re Real – Mascara by Benefit cosmetics is my new favourite buy, priced just at INR 800 (Small bottle). This beauty is an ideal option for your travel kit as well. To keep it near natural, my choice of Lip color is creamy yet matte – in Deep Earth by Colorbarpriced at INR 675. The final touch comes with nails in Downtown Red by Maybelline Color Show.

Loosely braided hair kept the look warm and welcoming, keeping the essence of Diwali alive.
